Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

Physical Plant Grounds Crew: Brett Gewanter, Chip Williams, Devon Kimball, Jordan Lashway, Jeff Gonyer
A big shout out to the Physical Plant Grounds Crew for all of their work behind the scenes on a daily basis since last fall to repair and rebuild our fields to be ready for the 2024 season! Mother Nature has not made their jobs easy! In addition, their game day preparation has been top notch and raised our game day experience! The work of this team is vital to the success of the Big Green teams. Many thanks for all of your hours spent, care and devotion! Your unwavering support is much appreciated! We are thankful to be on your team!

Varsity Volleyball: Evelyn Kunde ’26, Georgia Ball ’25, and Greta Trapp’25
DOTW this week goes to our three captains. Evelyn Kunde ’26, Georgia Ball ’25, and Greta Trapp’25. Evelyn has been the offensive leader for Deerfield. She led the team in kills with 188 this season. Every match, she was trusted with an average of 22 hitting attempts and was able to get a kill on nearly half of them. Greta was Evelyn’s counterpart on defense. She led the team with 223 digs. Greta was on the court for nearly every serve receive this season, and there is no one on the team who we trust more to keep the ball off the ground. Lastly is Georgia who was the heart and soul of the team. Georgia was our second most utilized hitter only to Evelyn. Georgia held every player on our team accountable, without bringing anyone down. When she was on the bench, she was one of the loudest voices, and the team always played better when she was on the court, no matter if she touched the ball or not.
These three players would always stand up for this team and have left a lasting legacy with the Deerfield volleyball program. In the middle of the year, they asked coaches to make a change to help their team improve. That conversation directly changed how we coached, and directly led to the future success of this team. Deerfield finished the season seeded 6th place in the playoffs, and we couldn’t have done it without their leadership.

Boys Cross-Country: Nico Pfeifler ’25
Nico Pfeifler wins the door of the week this week for placing fourth in the JV championship race, and JT Gally wins the door of the week for sealing the podium position for the team with his terrific performance in the varsity race to break the tie against St. Paul’s.

Girls Varsity Soccer: Ellie Schiller ’25
In her final regular season soccer game for the Green and White, senior tri-captain Ellie Schiller posted a stellar performance for the Big Green! Helping to lead her backline and hold the ranked Wild Boars scoreless in the run of play. Her presence, poise, passion and competitive spirit shown bright in her performance. Ellie’s care for her teammates, passion for Deerfield and fun personality have all left a lasting impact on the Big Green girls varsity soccer team! Thanks, Ellie!

Football: Cole Geer ’25
Cole Geer is the Varsity Football Team’s final DOTW. Cole Geer has epitomized the values of our Deerfield Football Program day in and day out for his 4 years on campus.  He is a great teammate whose work ethic, care for others and competitive streak have impacted many games in his career.  Despite facing a setback with an injury early in his senior season, Cole remained engaged and committed to his teammates throughout the season.  Thankfully he was able to return to compete on the field with his teammates against Choate in our final game of the year.  Cole is a two time NE Prep football champion, All- New England and is going on to play football next season at UVA.  He will be missed on the field, in the locker room and on campus after this year.  He has raised the bar in his 4 years and we are excited to see him grow at the next level.

Go Big Green!
