Deerfield Teams Victorious on Fall Family Weekend

It was a picturesque Fall Family Weekend in the Pioneer Valley for the Big Green! The Doors were victorious on the weekend, besting their opponents with a collective 12-6-0 record.

On the soccer fields, the Big Green went undefeated with a perfect 6-0 record. The girls varsity soccer team scored two goals in the first half to earn a 2-0 win and extend their current undefeated streak to five games. On the neighboring field, the girls JV soccer team earned another shutout to claim the 6-0 victory over the Big Red.

The boys varsity and JV soccer teams both bested visiting St. Paul’s by a score of 2-1 and 3-1 respectively. The boys varsity soccer team improved to 4-3-2 on the season.

The boys Jr. A soccer team faced off against Wilbraham and bested the visitors 5-1. Finally, the boys Jr. B soccer team capped off the perfect Saturday soccer record with their 2-0 victory over Westminster.

On the turf, the varsity field hockey team netted four goals and defensively shutout St. Paul’s to secure the 4-0 victory. With the victory, the Big Green improve their season record to 6-1 and extend their current winning streak to four games. The JV field hockey team battled hard and at the final whistle suffered their first loss of the season to St. Paul’s.

In the gym, the three Big Green volleyball teams sealed a flawless record with each team securing a 3-0 victory. The varsity and JV volleyball teams each defeated visiting St. Paul’s and the thirds volleyball team defeated Pomfret.

On the cross-country course, the girls varsity and JV cross-country runners posted personal best races, but were bested at the finish line by St. Paul’s. The boys varsity and JV cross-country teams also raced head-to-head against St. Paul’s and secured two victories over the Big Red.

In the pool, the boys varsity water polo hosted Hamden Hall and Greenwich Country Day School. The Big Green were bested by their opponents in two close games.

On Friday night, the varsity football team played on the road at Cheshire. The scored remained tied at halftime 14-14, but fell to the Wildcats, 21-31 at the final whistle.

Deerfield teams return to action this week. On Wednesday, there is a full slate of soccer games and the Big Green will host contests on Friday afternoon to close out the week of contests. Click here for the Big Green fall athletic schedule.
