The Division I New England Prep School Swimming and Diving Championships took place this week starting Wednesday, February 27th with the diving competition held at Suffield Academy and continuing Saturday, March 2nd with the swimming competition on home turf.
Thirteen schools and over 300 athletes filled the Koch Pool Saturday and by the end of the evening, the Big Green had much to celebrate! On the path to winning the title for the boys, squeezing past Suffield by only one point after the final event of the meet, and a third place finish overall for the girls, numerous pool records, meet records, school records, personal records and one New England record (the boys’ 200 Medley Relay) tumbled. Indeed, every point mattered that day, fueling an atmosphere of sheer excitement and anticipation. We were especially fortunate this year to welcome Fritz Homans ’79 as the announcer of the swimming meet.
Two-time winner of the Babcock Award for the most outstanding male athlete of the meet as voted by the league coaches, Fritz presented our own Taylor Clough ’13, four time New England diving champion, with the 2013 award. The 2013 Grace Robertson Award for the most outstanding female athlete of the meet was awarded to teammate Jenner McLeod ’13, champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle and a member of the champion 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Jenner was joined by co-captain Liza Bragg ’13, tri-captain Oscar Miao ’13, and teammate Quinn Smith ’14 as the only quadruple winners of the meet. Matt Hrabchak ’15 was a triple winner.
