Congratulations to the boys’ track and field team, who brought home the New England Championship for the first time in school history! Entering the meet predicted to finish 4th, the entire boys’ team rallied and outperformed expectations in every event. It was a remarkable team effort: Deerfield’s boys improved on their pre-meet seed in every single event and defeated an incredibly strong Loomis Chaffee team by a mere 2 points. While every point and performance matters in such a meet, the day ended with a dramatic finish as Deerfield’s 4x400m relay team came from behind to defeat the top-seeded team from Loomis Chaffee; entering the relay, Deerfield and Loomis were tied overall, so the victory sealed Deerfield’s first New England championship since the NEPSTA meet began, 73 years ago.
