Boys Varsity Squash Places 5th at Nationals

This past weekend, from Friday to Sunday, Boys Varsity Squash had a great National tournament finishing 3-1 and placing fifth in the country.

The Big Green defeated Mercersburg 4-3; lost to Brunswick 5-2; beat Conestoga HS 5-2; and Episcopal 5-2. According to Coach Silipo, a few highlights include outstanding play from Christian Capella at one, who was 3-1. His three wins were all 3-0. Zi Yu was also 3-1. His match against Episcopal was monumental, lasting over an hour, with Zi winning 11-9, 8-11, 13-11, 9-11, 13-11! Bravo to Zi on showing tremendous grit!

At six, Read Kitchel was 3-1, especially gratifying his win against Episcopal, his old school against a boy he played behind last year. He won 7-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9! Also, the play of Lucas Capella who was 2-1 and injured after his second match, stayed out of the third match and came back for the team’s match against Episcopal winning 3-0! Yousef El Wabory was 2-2, and had a crucial win against Mercersburg to secure a 4-3 team win. The team also had a comeback win against Conestoga coming back from being down 2-0, to win 3-2, 7-11, 4-11, 11-2,11-4, 11-4! Bennett Eun at three was outstanding at 2-2, but more importantly, his leadership as captain kept everyone together!!

Huge congrats to Boys Varsity Squash for finishing the season 18-3. A real testament to how hard the team worked all season!
