Congratulations to our first spring term Athletes of the Week! Thank you for your efforts and team contributions.
Girls Varsity Lacrosse: Kathryn Grennon ‘17
Kathryn Grennon was our Girls Varsity Lacrosse Athlete of the Week. She tallied 6 goals in each of our two opening contests, and her leadership and execution on the field were instrumental in both of those strong team performances. Kathryn is committed to play division 1 lacrosse at William and Mary.
Boys Varsity Rowing: Shaun Kronenwetter ‘19
Shaun Kronenwetter ’19 earns recognition as the rower of the week for stepping into the 5 seat of the 2nd 8+ on short notice. After some tough losses in the first few pieces against Belmont Hill, Shaun and the rest of the crew found their focus and composure, and won last piece of the day.
Varsity Baseball: Donnie Sparks ‘18
Nominates Donnie Sparks who consistently demonstrates why it matters to have it matter! Donnie cares about the TEAM, getting better every day, and enjoying the experience. Donnie made a great base running read against Loomis on a base hit that put the team in a position to tie the game in bottom of the last inning. His enthusiasm is meaningful to everyone.
Girls JV Lacrosse: Isabella Geraci ‘19
This week, the Athlete of the Week on JV Girls Lax goes to Isabella Geraci. From the first day of practice, Isabella has dedicated herself to learning as much as possible while giving 110% of her effort to practice every single day. In our first game against St. Mark’s last Wednesday, Isabella played center midfield for the first time in her lacrosse career and played it like a pro. She pulled down 7 total draws and added 2 goals and 1 assist to contribute to our 12-4 victory. Isabella has already made quite the impact on our team, and we look forward to her continued success as the season progresses.
Varsity Softball: Caroline Pappas ‘17
The softball team’s athlete of the week is Caroline Pappas. Caroline brings heart and hustle to every practice and game. As a captain, she is the first to set a good example whether it is chasing down a fly ball, stepping into the batter’s box with confidence while also working to improve, or simply volunteering to feed the pitching machine. No matter what Caroline does, it is with enthusiasm and love for the game and her team. For four years Caroline has brought great energy to the team and we are thrilled that she is our first athlete of the week.
Girls Varsity Water Polo: Lucy Beimfohr ‘17
Upon learning her teammates would have to match up against Hotchkiss with a goalie who had never played that position, Lucy Beimfohr, who has been the team’s starting goalie since her ninth-grade year, immediately changed her college visit plans to ensure she would be back on campus in time for the game. In adeptly balancing her team’s short-term need and her own long-term choice, Lucy demonstrated her skill in making and meeting commitments.
Girls Varsity Rowing: Fernanda Ponce ‘19
Fernanda is our athlete of the week because she is always working hard for the team, whether it’s pushing for personal improvement on the erg, rowing in any seat or on any side where she’s needed, or hustling back for warmup after taking oars or gas tanks down in preparation for practice. Her commitment, effort, and attitude make the team better every day. Thank you and congratulations, Fernanda!
Boys JV Baseball: Sam Laur ‘20
Although the team hasn’t had an official game yet, the coaches nominated Sam Laur as their Athlete of the Week. Sam showed toughness bouncing back from a hand injury and had a key hit in one of our scrimmage games. He is working hard on his outfield play and shows promise as a ball player. He comes every day to practice ready to work and eager to improve.
Boys Varsity Tennis: Scott Danforth ‘17
In our season-opening tournament at Kingswood Oxford, Scott went 5-1, winning the #2 singles flight and reaching the finals of the #1 doubles flight with partner Carl Grant. He helped the team to a second-place finish, our best performance in at least five years.
Varsity Golf: Kimberly Stafford ‘19
In yesterday’s match vs. Avon & NMH, Kimberly shot a match leading 38, which helped propel the team to victory. Very impressive! Congrats, Kim!
