With the beginning of the 2017 Fall Family Weekend underway, the Deerfield Athletics department would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our student-athletes’ families. This weekend brings a big day of athletic competitions on Saturday with eighteen contests being held at home.
The festivities will kick-off at 2:00pm starting with varsity & JV volleyball and boys varsity & JV soccer all facing the Big Red of Exeter. After having both suffered losses on Wednesday, varsity volleyball and boys varsity soccer will look to get back into the win column on Saturday with victories over Exeter.
Next up, the 4-1 Big Green football team, fresh off a come from behind road victory over Loomis last weekend, is looking to extend their win streak to four games as they take on Exeter at 2:30pm. Also at 2:30pm, the boys Junior A and Junior B soccer teams will battle crosstown rivals, Eaglebrook, on the lower division fields and the girls reserve soccer team will face Westminster.
At 3:00pm, varsity, JV and reserve field hockey will all be squaring off against the Taft School. Varsity field hockey, led by senior co-captains, Tierney Roche ’18 and Meaghan O’Brien ’18, will look to capture their eighth win of the season on Saturday. Girls varsity and JV soccer will also be in action at 3:00pm as they take on Taft as well. After a great week of practice, the girls varsity team is hungry to get their first win of the season in front of all their fans on fall family weekend.
Late in the afternoon, all three cross country teams will be running the campus course against Exeter. Girls varsity looks to continue their great success, as they’ve been victorious in all their meets so far this season. Boys varsity is looking to rebound from last weekend’s close races versus Loomis and Choate. Races begin at 3:00pm with girls varsity, followed by boys varsity at 3:30pm and finishing with coed JV at 4:00pm.
The day will conclude with the boys varsity and JV water polo matches at 3:30pm and 4:45pm both against Exeter in the David H. Koch Natatorium. Varsity water polo, behind the senior leadership of Nolen Rockefeller ’18 and Andrew Penner ’18, is hoping to record its ninth win of the season, improving upon last year’s 2016 overall final record of 8-9.
