2017 Choate Day Preview

With the beginning of Choate Day upon us, the Deerfield Athletics department would like to extend a warm welcome to all parents, alums, and fans visiting campus on this special annual day. This year, Deerfield will play host to the rivalry as Choate will make the trip north to the Pioneer Valley. Saturday brings a big day of athletic competitions with twelve Deerfield-Choate games being held at home.

The Deerfield-Choate tradition began with a football game between the two schools on October 7, 1922. Like all good rivalries, there was an immediate competitive bond between the two teams, and they insisted upon meeting annually. With the aid of enthusiasm from Mr. Boyden and Choate Headmaster George St. John, the matches continued. Soccer joined the mix on November 17, 1930 and Cross Country in 1948.
