Deerfield JV Boys Basketball closed out a historic season with a hard-fought 57-50 loss at Choate on Friday night. Facing a one-loss Choate squad, the Doors played relentless defense and competed with intensity for all 32 minutes, refusing to back down against a talented opponent.
Will Machnik ’26 led the way with 24 points, while Teddy Hamadeh ’26 posted a dominant 10-point, 14-rebound performance despite limited action due to foul trouble. Senior captain MacGregor Hynds ’26 battled in his final game, securing 8 rebounds and adding 2 points. Jay Rich ’27 and Peter Lakey ’28 were relentless on the glass, each scoring on a physical putback after securing tough offensive rebounds. Carter Schloat ’28 contributed 4 points, including an important putback and an athletic catch-and-shoot finish. Michael Hioe ’27 played a crucial role, defending Choate’s best player nearly the entire game, while JJ Kicza ’28 anchored the post with strong rebounding and defense.
Despite Deerfield’s defensive effort, Choate found ways to convert—hitting deep contested threes, making key free throws, and finishing through contact at the rim to edge ahead late. Deerfield’s first 10-win season in recent history is a testament to the team’s resilience, teamwork, and growth throughout the year.
