Deerfield’ wrestling held its home opener, wrestling three matches and going 2-1 on the day. The team came into the day ready to compete hard and executed on that goal. A special thanks to all the fans who came to watch. Their energy and support meant a great deal, especially during tough matches.
Deerfield: 38
Pomfret School: 20
Deerfield’s first match was a victory over Pomfret, who had previously bested Deerfield. Highlights included falls from Matthew Hough, Nathan Blaya, and Bronson Branch. David Pierce scored a technical fall over his opponent while Shogo O’Conner scored a convincing decision over a strong and experienced opponent.
Deerfield: 40
Suffield Academy: 24
Deerfield’s second match of the day was against a Suffield team that, despite being small in numbers, forced the wrestlers to work hard. Highlights of the match included a fall by Nathan Blaya and a major decision by Shogo O’Connor.
Deerfield: 18
Hopkins School: 48
Deerfield’s final match was against a strong and technically sound Hopkins team. Though the team wrestled hard, Hopkins was able to prevail. Highlights included Nathan Blaya picking up his third fall of the day.
The wrestlers will be on the road this Wednesday against Eagle Hill School and the Hyde School.
