Deerfield Boys Third’s Squash vs. Choate: A Spirited Match with Narrow Margins

The team faced off against Choate in an exciting and hard-fought match that ended in a 3-6 loss. Despite the overall result, Deerfield’s top three players delivered standout performances. Carter, at the top of the ladder, delivered a 3-1 victory over his opponent: 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, and 11-6. Aaron followed suit with another strong showing, overcoming a slow start to claim a 3-1 victory with the final scores being 5-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8. Jonathan completed the sweep at the top of the ladder with a dominant straight-game win, taking down his opponent 11-6, 11-6, and 11-7.

Further down the ladder, Justin delivered one of the most intense matches of the day in his battle against Choate. Justin started strong, winning the first game 11-8, but Choate rallied to take the next three games as the momentum shifted. John also had a memorable match, which went to four thrilling games. After claiming the first game 11-6, John fought hard in the second but narrowly lost 8-11. The third game was a nail-biter that Choate edged 10-12, and the fourth was another close contest, in which they managed to close out 9-11.

While the rest of the matches didn’t go Deerfield’s way, the team showed great effort and sportsmanship throughout. Max and Tim faced tough opponents but competed with heart, with Max’s composed play in the first game and Tim’s persistence standing out. Although Deerfield couldn’t pull off the victory, the squad’s growth and determination were evident, and that is a victory within itself.
