Deerfield Girls Hockey faced off against Pomfret on Wednesday afternoon for the Hastings Cup, named in honor of Brad Hastings, who started the Girls Hockey program at both schools.
Though this was likely our poorest effort of the season in terms of effort and execution, we did enough to earn a 3-0 win. Gia Thompson ’26 opened the scoring on a nice rush (assist to Brady Wierl ’26), and then we got two goals in the second period: the first from Chloe Cleaves ’26 on the power play (assists to Wierl and Keira Austen ’26) and the second from Peyton Wierl ’26 on a beautiful backhand from Olivia Austen ’27 and Allie Corrieri ’25. Izzy Kirby ’26 earned yet another shutout in goal, and Brady Wierl was awarded the hard hat for her consistent effort and positive attitude. We’ll face a stiff test against Andover on Saturday, and look forward to the challenge!
