Deerfield JV Boys Basketball put up a spirited fight in a challenging matchup at Worcester Academy, falling 63-50 despite a thrilling second-half comeback. Worcester’s disciplined man-to-man defense and sharp shooting from beyond the arc proved tough to overcome, but Deerfield’s resilience was on full display.
Trailing in the second half, Deerfield launched an electrifying 20-0 run to cut the deficit to just nine points with four minutes remaining. Jay Rich ’27 led the charge with two and-one finishes and a beautiful fast-break assist to Will Machnik ’26. Carter Schloat ’28 and Marty Rodriguez Pastor ’28 each buried clutch three-pointers during the run, while Peter Lakey ’28 added a smooth shot in the lane. Machnik also chipped in a few hard-fought layups against the formidable Worcester defenders.
Ultimately, Worcester’s energy, execution, and shooting carried them to victory, but Deerfield showed grit and determination throughout the game.
