Deerfield’s JV Swim team had their first meet of the season on this snowy Saturday, away at Suffield. Fresh off of the winter break, the team was feeling rested and ready for the competition. While we didn’t win the meet, we did walk away feeling like winners as the team racked up a whopping 12 best times on the day! Here are a few highlights: Alyssa DeRosa, in her first ever Deerfield swim meet, dropped nearly ten seconds in her 50-yard freestyle. Olivia Minn, who was also swimming in her first meet, stepped into the 400-yard free-style relay at the last minute and, despite having already swum in three events prior, still dropped nearly 3 seconds from her personal best. Josh Cole earned “kick of the meet” for his stellar performance in the 50-yard backstroke, bettering his best time by over 7 seconds, and for his willingness to jump into the 200-yard freestyle relay in the eleventh hour when another DA player suffered an injury. Melody Zhao also swam a competitive meet, overcoming a muscle strain early in day. This meet was an excellent learning experience for many of our novice swimmers; we’re proud of the support and grace that each DA swimmer showed their teammates in and out of the pool.
