In front of a great crowd, Deerfield hosted Loomis on Wednesday, with the Pelicans taking a well-earned victory, 1-3.

The first set started off with strong volleyball play from both teams that continued throughout the afternoon. Good hitting from Loomis was matched with excellent attacks from Evelyn Kunde ‘26, Emerson Lewis ‘28, and Georgia Ball ‘25 along with strong passing from Greta Trapp ‘25 and Zoe Galaburda ‘26. Deerfield was able to get out to a small lead of 16-13 before Loomis used a long service run to take the set, 19-25.

In the second set, Deerfield came out strong right away before Loomis was able to tie it up with the teams mostly trading sideouts to 10-12 before Galaburda went on a service run that took the score to 16-12. Harmoni Dobbins ‘26 had great hits in the middle (against triple blockers) as well as providing a number of blocks of her own along with Sophie Kamil ‘26. With intelligent setting from Charlotte Coody ‘26 and Lewis and great serves from Trapp, Deerfield was able to take the set 25-17.

In the 3rd and 4th sets, there were multiple extended rallies with great defense from both teams and strong hitting and blocking that kept the teams fatigued and the crowd entertained throughout. Deerfield struggled with serve receive in the 3rd set and Loomis took advantage to take the set, 16-25, while in the 4th set the teams were tight throughout until Loomis pulled away at the end to take the set and the match, 18-25.

Strong volleyball from both teams. Thanks to Loomis for making the trip.
