Despite the long walk uphill to get to the gym at the top of Eagle Hill, the Girls JV Volleyball Team came ready to play against a tenacious Eagle Hill Varsity team. Volleyball is most often a game of rallies, but today’s match proved to be a game of aces and kills. Almost every player who served the ball in the match scored at least one ace and seven players had more than one leading the team to a straight set win.
The Eagle Hill team started set one with a run of a few points, but after a first sideout, the DA team got their focus and began passing well and not letting the Eagle Hill team gain back any momentum. Jessica Wu, ‘27, performed ably at the net with multiple blocks and kills on overpasses from the Eagle Hill squad. Travis Gerst put the set in hand with 6 aces and Maisy Johnson, ‘26 added great passing and solid defense as libero.
The DA squad was able to put away set two quickly with strong play from new setter, Arabella Navab, ‘26. Gigi Selvig, ‘27 contributed multiple kills and aces, and the ace queen of the set was Kingsley Carolan, ‘25 with 4 aces in a row. Travis Gerst tacked on 3 kills in the 25-5 set.
In the final set, the team was challenged as many players were asked to play unfamiliar positions and they showed significant grit and resilience as they adapted to new roles. The team still clocked an impressive number of aces with Karen Park, ‘26 and Clara Lipman, ‘27 leading the way. The team made quick work of this win, but still took away the communication, leadership, and teamwork it took to play focused, strong, and to adapt to new positions. We can’t wait for our first home game next week!
