The girls varsity soccer team continued their stretch of road games at Westminster this afternoon. The contest proved to be a great game of high level soccer between the two sides.
The Big Green settled into their rhythm and grew throughout the 80 minutes of play. The Doors battled hard defensively and took advantage of several counter attacks to start the game. Half way through the first half a defensive breakdown by the Doors led to the Martlets scoring the first goal of the game.
The Big Green continued to battle creating several great opportunities with Olivia Austen ‘27 serving in great crosses. The greatest chance came from Eleanor duPont ‘26 who turned her defender and went to goal, the Westminster goalkeeper made the initial save and Olivia Austen ‘27 stepped up on the rebound that ricocheted off the post then the crossbar and the Westminster defender before going out of bounds. The sideline was on the verge of erupting with excitement – it was that close!
The Big Green showed their grit and continued to press until the final minute of play. The squad continues to get stronger with every opportunity together on the field. A shout out to the strong defending, great possession from the midfielders and attacking mindset of the forwards!
The Big Green will return to action in their first home game of the season this Saturday on Jamie Kapteyn field against KUA.
