On Wednesday, September 25th, the boys junior B footballers had their first official home game of the season, hosting the Eaglebrook School’s JV2 team. Once again, the Deerfield roster was depleted and there were only two subs available on the bench. Luckily, fitness wasn’t an issue – after a long 1st half drought, Deerfield broke the game open early in the 2nd half on their way to a 9-0 win to raise their record to 3-0 on the season (and 2-0 against town rivals).
The game got off to a great start for Deerfield, with Cole Higgins ’26 intercepting the opening pass, weaving through the defense, and scoring within 20 seconds to make the score 1-0. After the quick start, however, the teams settled in and the next 20 minutes were a back and forth affair, with both teams moving the ball well and creating chances. In the 23rd minute, Higgins finally found the back of the net again for Deerfield to make the score 2-0 and give the host team some breathing room. The 2-0 half-time lead still felt tenuous, though, with Eaglebrook showing that they could string some passes together and get off some dangerous shots. The 2nd half began much as the 1st did, with a Jack Keller ’26 goal in the 1st minute for a 3-0 lead. Unlike the drought in the 1st half, though, this goal was just the first of seven to come in the 2nd half. Teddy Hamadeh ’26 scored his first goal of the season, Keller got another one, Higgins got two more, Tucker Sichol ’27 scored a long-range goal and Eaglebrook scored an own goal for the final margin. Quad Squad will be back in action on Saturday, September 28th with a 2:00 pm match on the lower fields against Suffield Academy.
