Deerfield’s JV Field Hockey team played a fast-paced, competitive game against Hotchkiss on an overcast and blustery Saturday afternoon. DA’s goals in the first and fourth quarter bookended an impressive forty-eight minutes of gameplay from both teams. Charlotte Steffensen ‘25 got the ball rolling (literally), hitting a strong drive that Alana McDonough ‘27 skillfully redirected around the goalie, scoring the first goal of the game. The second goal was batted in by Rose Manning ‘26 off of a strong cross by Campbell Ardrey ‘26. A consistent and unrelenting defensive effort from Deerfield held Hotchkiss scoreless throughout the game. Liv Kubica ‘28 and Chloe Xue ‘25 were particularly impenetrable on the defensive line today, demonstrating an impressive mastery of the block-tackles and jabs we’ve been developing in practice. Other noteworthy players today include Maggie O’Brien ‘27 and Charlotte for their stamina and persistence in the midfield, Rose for her flexibility, playing offensive, midfield, and defensive positions over the course of the game, and Campbell, Ellora Devitre ‘26, and Audrey Steffensen ‘26 for their unending offensive pressure. You’ll notice that there are more “players of note” in this game writeup than usual and that is because each and every player made a huge difference in today’s game. It was truly a team effort! We’ll be back at it again Saturday 9/28, away at Exeter.
