Deerfield’s JV Field Hockey team is off to an amazing start. They played a competitive game against the Berkshire School today, maintaining a consistent effort despite a long bus ride and a hot day. The first and only goal of the game was scored quickly into the first quarter by DA’s Alana McDonough ‘26. While it was our team’s first game of the season, it was also a number of our player’s first ever field hockey game. We were so excited by their willingness to give new positions a try and were impressed by the leadership of our three captains, Edie Huffard ‘25, Emily Bruno ‘25, and Charlotte Steffensen ‘25, when gracefully helping our new players with positioning and the rules of the game. We’d be remiss not to mention the extraordinary performance of our goalie Sarah Hanks ‘25, saving over 10 shots on goal. The unflappable Linnea Knox ‘26 also had an outstanding game, anchoring the defense across both halves. We’re excited to get back out on the field at our next game at DA this Wednesday 9/18 against Pomfret.
