The Doors rolled 2 hours west to Lakeville, CT to race against the Bearcats of Hotchkiss School, the Bruins of Brunswick, the Bears of Berkshire, and the Winged Beavers of Avon Old Farms at the inaugural Hotchkiss School Invitational. In a resounding show of depth, the Deerfield runners won all the JV races in perfect scores, and the Deerfield JV defeated the varsity squads from both Avon and Berkshire. At the varsity level, Brunswick and Hotchkiss each edged out the Doors by narrow margins, giving the Deerfield harriers terrific targets for the championship racing at the end of the season. Notable individual efforts included Max Wang’s terrific run as the lead DA scorer, Nico Pfeifler’s first time scoring points for the DA varsity, Thijs Wittink’s strong race day effort, and Torge Blunck’s inspired finish. As a team, the boys achieved the goals of improving their execution of race day and learning the championship course. The runners look ahead to next week’s home contest against the Pelicans of St. Paul’s School.
