The 2024 boys cross country season began with two great races under relentless sun on Deerfield’s home course against Northfield Mount Hermon, Williston-Northampton, Bement, Cushing Academy, and Worcester Academy. In the 3k event, Deerfield dominated the race from the gun, with Leo Friedman, Arafat Jama, and co-captain Chas Arnold each running a smart race to claim the top three positions. In the 5k event, a feisty team from Northfield Mount Hermon offered stiff competition for the top Deerfield harriers, but ultimately co-captain Aiden Van Epps, JT Gally, Liam Walker, Nico Pfiefler, and Quinn Clark ran tactically sound races to ease ahead of the competition. The friendly meet is unscored, but the results anticipate an exciting season, especially as runners return from illness to augment a strong roster. Next weekend, the Doors will work hard at practice during an off week from racing in anticipation of traveling to Hotchkiss on September 28^th.
