Tennis (Girls): Varsity vs. Choate (05/11/24 1:00 PM)

Event Details

Deerfield’s varsity girls tennis squad hit the road for the final regular season match of the year on Saturday to take on Choate. Overcast skies and cool conditions made for ideal tennis weather.

This season’s schedule was apparently structured to save the best for last. This was the most entertaining match of the season. Out of the total nine matches played, seven would feature tie-breakers.

Doubles was tight at every position. Linnea Dreslin and Giorgia Santore closed out a wild set with a decisive 7-3 tie break win. Kate MacKenzie and Maggie Molson stayed out ahead for most of their match and pulled away to win 8-6.

Five of six singles matches would require a third set to reach a decision. Linnea Dreslin bounced back to win after dropping a second set. Avery Brooker defeated a very strong Choate opponent in three sets at the two position in yet another marathon contest to add to her resumé. Devon Coleman played a cerebral game at fifth singles to win her three setter. Kate MacKenzie followed suit earning a third set tie-break win in her final outing for Deerfield.

Natalia Sanders put on a dominant performance in her last match for Deerfield Academy. It’s worth noting that Natalia has held the one singles position for two years and is undefeated in that time– a tremendous feat considering she faced the toughest opponents in New England during that stretch.

Thank you to the players and our supporters for a fun season. Congratulations and good luck to our many graduating seniors!
