The boys JV hockey team travelled to nearby Easthampton, MA. on Saturday to play Williston for the 2nd time in the 2023-2024 season. The first matchup at home between the two teams in early January resulted in a 4-0 win for Deerfield. Playing on their home ice we knew going into the game the score could be much closer. It was senior day for the Williston team as they recognized the 4 seniors they had on their roster this season. After a brief ceremony the game would begin and it was Williston that struck first punching in a loose puck past the Deerfield netminder Jarron Crosbie. Deerfield would come back minutes later, still in the first period, with Jack Welch scoring his first goal of the afternoon. The score at the end of the 1st was a 1-1 tie game.
Deerfield began increasing the pressure in the Williston half of the ice and Jack Welch would score two more goals (hattrick on the day) with Griffin Mariani scoring a rebound goal giving Deerfield a 4-1 lead going in to the final period. The third period saw more of the same kind of pressure from Deerfield but nothing was finding the back of the net. Williston would score a second goal on the day with less than 5 minutes to play to tighten the score at 4-2. This is how the game would end with Deerfield coming away with their 9th win of the season.
The JV team finishes their season this week with two more games against NMH and Westminster. Seniors Alex Sotirhos, Alexander Rolfe, and Alistair Hunt will have their last games and practices this week wearing the Hockey Green and Whites for the Doors. All three have given much to the program and we are excited to play well this week and send them off with some good play from their teammates.
NMH on Wednesday at 2:15 will be our last home game of the 2023-2024 season.
