The boys JV hockey team travelled to Simsbury Ct. on Saturday for their final game of the season. It would be the last hockey game for the three seniors; Alex Sotirhos, Alexander Rolfe and Alistair Hunt. These three have been influential team members this year and in previous years with Sotirhos and Rolfe playing 4 years of JV puck and Alistair 3 years. The team was excited to finish their season on a high note and so went into the game with determination and high spirits. Today’s outcome was a 9-4 win and every team member on the trip today contributed. The big story on the day was the play of the Donnellan/Mariani/Stenzler line accounting for 4 goals on the day! These three were all over the opposition defensemen and gave their team 4 beautifully executed team goals – Ryan had 2, Blake and Griff contributed one apiece. More production came from Sotirhos/Rolfe/ and Jack Welch as Rolfe earned three large pizzas off his pre-game wager with Coach Howe!! Some quality chances and great two-way play came from the line of Altemeyer, Kertesz, and Rorick as they got on the scoring sheet with a goal from Cole.
The big difference in this game was our stronger defensive personnel. Rob, Owen, Tripp, Griffin, Cooper and Alistair proved to be the big difference in the game between the two squads. Their play kept the Westminster forwards away from our and allowed our offense to take over the game. Cooper had a nice goal with a shot from the point. Goalie Connor Hevesy was solid again in net. The team committed only 2 penalties on the day, remained focused, and produced a great effort to send our three senior off with one last exciting J.V. hockey memory. Well-done team!!
We finished the season at 11-5-1 and grew as a supportive and “all-in” unit. Again, our sincere appreciation to our three seniors who loved the game of hockey and the team. Its been a ton of fun having you as a part of the program. Go Big Green!!
