Boys JV hockey hosted the Rhinos from Taft on Saturday and Big Green pulled away with a 6-3 win. Both teams entered the game short-handed due to injuries and illnesses, but it was the Deerfield team that was ready to play for the first period. Taft was suffering a sluggish start which gave way to a 3-0 first period lead. Will Kertesz score the 1st and third goals of the period and Alex Sotirhos would contribute the middle goal.
To start off the second period Will Kertesz would score his third goal of the game and Blake Donnellan would tally one of his own giving the team a 5-0 lead. Taft would score the next two goals before Jack Welch rounded off the scoring for Deerfield scoring on a breakaway with less than 2 minutes left in the period.
Taft would add another goal in the third closing the scoring at 6-3. Connor Hevesy and Cole Rorick were given the game pucks on the day. Both had good games Saturday, Connor in the goal and Cole playing a solid two-way game. Hats off to the 4 defensemen, Tripp, Rob, Cooper, and Griffin for their play all throughout Saturday’s game.
Next up for the Doors is a rematch with Eaglebrook School on Wednesday. The two teams faced each other in December and skated to a 1-1 overtime tie.
