The boys J.V. hockey team travelled across Route 5 on Wednesday to play against our neighbor Eaglebrook School. The two teams faced one another back in December coming away with a 1-1 tie. Today’s game would be close as both squads are closing in on their final contests of the 2023-2024 season. EBS would win today’s game by a score of 4-1. The game felt much closer than the final score. The Doors had lots of shots, but few really good scoring opportunities. Will Kertesz would score the game’s first goal in the first period when he intercepted an EBS breakout pass and fired a shot past the talented opponent goalie. That would be all the scoring on the day as the host team would score 4 unanswered goals which included a game end open-net goal.
Give credit to the EBS team for playing with poise and taking advantage of some miscues in our defensive zone in the second period. Deerfield’s line of Donnellan, Altemeyer, Stenzler and Mariani had themselves an excellent day creating several good scoring opportunities throughout the game.
The team finishes up their season with games against Williston, NMH and Westminster. We will get two practices in between now and Saturday in preparation for a rematch with Williston.
