The Doors traveled to Easthampton, Mass, for their only contest of the season with Williston Northampton School. Matching us in size, number, and skill, Williston presented a real challenge. The Doors came out aggressive, drawing some quick fouls and getting to the line. Although they were unable to convert, they developed a small lead with their patience on offense, with the calming presence of Michael Hioe ’27, and their strength on defense. Williston amped up their 1-3-1 half course defense and aggressiveness on the boards, evening the score at half. The 21 combined fouls in the first half we equaled in the second, leading to some chirping at the refs, some chipiness in the paint, and some chaos toward the end, culminating with a double tech with only 10 seconds to play. Victor Kibuuka ‘26, who led the Doors with 10 points, made a game-sealing defensive play that closed the books on what could best be described as a battle. Deerfield prevailed, 30-26, despite poor foul shooting (17%) and plenty of turnovers (18). If they can harness this energy, grit, and determination, they are hard to stop. Deerfield moves to 9-2 on the year and faces Suffield at home on Saturday.
