Deerfield fell to their school rival Choate, 47-45 on their home court, dropping to 10-4 on the season. Despite getting out to an early 11-2 lead on two bank-shot threes from Jerry Du ’27, the Doors couldn’t control the ball against an aggressive half-court ball pressure and trapping defense. Choate slowly chipped away at the lead in the first half, finding themselves down only two without the presence of big man Eddie Andrews ’27, who received three quick fouls, protecting the paint. Choate continued to apply pressure and Deerfield continued to turn the ball over until 2 minutes remained in the game. Down eight, Deerfield found the aggression they needed all game on defense. Johnny Scagel ’25 and Jay Rich ’27 had some clutch shots and aggressive defense allowing the Doors to have the ball with only 11 seconds to go, down two. Deerfield ran a decent play with Michael Hioe ’27 taking an open three for the win. From the bench, it looked like it was going to drop, but it was off the back rim. Deerfield’s heart this season has been unquestionable, losing by a combined 12 points in their four losses. They have two games remaining in what has been a solid season, facing off away against Loomis on Wednesday and home on Saturday.
