Boys JV basketball lost 53-57 to NMH on Wednesday afternoon. NMH had a deep bench and skilled front court. The Doors took a 2-0 lead on the opening tap, but NMH quickly built a substantial lead. The Big Green never gave up and found a way to take the lead briefly in the second half through excellent defense, fastbreak offense, and excellent three-point shooting. Ultimately, NMH controlled the game, rebounded effectively, and made key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Will Machnik finished with a team-high 24 points, including four three pointers in the second half. Theo Lewis contributed 12 points, including a few beautiful give and go plays with Teddy Hamadeh. Teddy had another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, as well as a handful of blocks and altered shots. Brady Read and Sungmin Ahn provided steady ball handling throughout the contest. Tucker Gongaware and Tyler Long provided energy off the bench in both halves, and Marty Liu brought the team a spark with his defensive energy. Sophomore Cooper Johnson played excellent defense on the opponent’s top slasher and scored a couple key fastbreak layups.
