Field Hockey (Girls): Junior Varsity vs. Williston (11/06/24 2:45 PM)

Event Details

On this seasonably warm and deliciously overcast day, DA JV FH faced off against a feisty Williston squad, walking away with a decisive 5-1 win in our last home game of the season. In the first half of the game, Deerfield scored four goals. The first goal was maneuvered into the goal by Rose Manning ’26 after collecting Campbell Ardrey’s ’26 hard, well-aimed assist from the midfield. Taylor Wilburn ’27 scored the second goal a mere three minutes later off of a hard drive from Charlotte Steffensen ’25, skillfully spinning the ball around Williston’s goalie in the process. Rose Manning scored again in the second quarter off of an assist from Audrey Steffensen ’26. The final goal of the half came off of a smart shot from Audrey Steffensen to the left goal post, guided in by a well-positioned Ella Waag ’26. Despite the diving saves of both defensive player Edie Huffard ’25 and goalie Sarah Hanks ’25, Williston still managed to find the back of the cage once in the second half. Deerfield remained composed, however, scoring one more goal to end the game. This shot came from Ellora Devitre ’26 off of an assist from Charlotte Steffensen. This was Ellora’s first goal of the season and first goal of her Deerfield JV FH career! We were so excited to celebrate with her! JV FH had more to celebrate than the many goals and the win, though, as it was our senior day. Emily Bruno, Liana Chen, Penley Day, Alva Fink, Sarah Hanks, Edie Huffard, Esther Lee, and Charlotte Steffensen have all been integral members of our team on and off the field. They have poured their hearts into making our team culture supportive, respectful, happy, and welcoming. We are so lucky to have had them lead the way this year and will miss them dearly next season.
