While wind blew from all sides, Deerfield GXC competed at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut. Fourteen teams, including Deerfield, competed in the NEPSTA Division I New Englands Championship race. The girls came dressed in layers, ready to demolish each hill on this cold day. During the race, the girls conquered a multitude of terrain ranging from lakeside paths to asphalt roads. Parents, coaches, and teammates cheered the harriers on and even tuned in through the live stream recording the finish line. Before the race began, the girls noticed something unusual and hollered into the air, “I smell bacon!” At the gun, Deerfield girls left the starting line and entered a sea of runners (100 in the varsity race and 150 in the jv race). Vivian, Gage, Olivia, Tess, Liesel, Elizabeth, and Skye competed at the varsity level and placed 13th as a team. Representing our JV team, Addie, Laura, Rowan, Emi, Holly, Haley, Lucy, Claire, Heidi, Anneke, Teagan, and Tatum raced, placing 10th. Tatum Lowe, a four year cross country senior, finished first among her jv teammates, a sweet end to her career as a Deerfield runner. The girls were extremely proud of their results though, unfortunately, they did not beat Choate; it was, nonetheless, a great parting race for our seniors Skye, Tatum, Emi, Anneke, Elizabeth, and Ginger.
