Hosting a Monday afternoon match, Deerfield volleyball defeated Hopkins Academy, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-15, and 25-12).
In the first set, the score was close throughout until Deerfield was able to get a little distance at the end of the set. Greta Trapp ‘25 and Zoe Galaburda ‘26 did a good job taking care of serve receive while setters Charlotte Coody ‘26 and Emerson Lewis ‘28 moved the ball around well.
In the second set, good serves from the Hilltoppers and a number of passing errors from Deerfield allowed Hopkins to get out to a 9-0 lead. While Deerfield chipped away, paced by strong play in the middle from Harmoni Dobbins ‘26 and Sophie Kamil ‘26, the deficit proved too large to overcome.
In the third and fourth sets, outside hitters Evelyn Kunde ‘26 and Georgia Ball ‘25 started to control the match while Gracie Spencer ‘25 added her defensive contributions. Deerfield was able to minimize its errors while Hopkins kept rallies going with good defense.
