The Girls JV Volleyball Team faced off against a strong and experienced Exeter squad, ultimately falling 0-3 (15-25, 16-25, 11-25). Despite the loss, Deerfield played with impressive resilience and enthusiasm throughout the match, highlighted by a thrilling comeback in the second set.
Down 6-18 in the second, the team rallied behind a huge dig from Maisy Johnson, leading to a well-placed kill by Katie Mountz, assisted by Selin Aksoy. That moment sparked a shift in momentum, as Selin then went on a remarkable serving run, delivering ten straight serves to bring Deerfield within striking distance at 16-18. Though Exeter eventually closed out the set, the energy and determination from the Deerfield players never wavered.
Selin Aksoy continued to lead with steady setting throughout the match, coordinating with backrow standouts Karen Park, Ava Cederholm, and Maisy Johnson, who made several key passes and digs. Jessica Wu and Katie Mountz were forces at the net, combining for multiple kills and blocks in the middle. Clara Lipman also contributed from the right side with crucial digs and partial blocks that extended rallies.
Outside hitters Travis Gerst and Blake Coleman added to the offense with powerful kills and smartly placed tips.
The team showed tremendous communication and teamwork, rallying together to compete against a well-coached and talented Exeter team. Though the match didn’t go their way, Deerfield’s determination and grit set the tone for the remainder of the season.
