On Saturday, the Big Green capped off their current three-game homestand against visiting St. Paul’s while welcoming family and friends to the sidelines for Fall Family Weekend. It was a picturesque fall day on Jamie Kapteyn field and the Big Green emerged victorious over the Big Red to extend their current undefeated streak to five-games and improve their mid-season record to 4-1-2.
Halfway through the first half, Meryl Gilbert ’27 gave the Big Green the 1-0 lead after some great combination play along the flank with teammate Olivia Austen ’27. The teamwork resulted in a wide shot from Meryl that sailed back post over the goalkeepers head into the back of the net. Less than ten minutes later, Maggie Garbarino ’27 scored for the Big Green with assist to Meryl Gilbert ’27 to double the Big Green lead before halftime. The goal was built from a collective defensive effort that resulted in a caused turnover in the Big Green’s attacking third of the field. After a sustained attack and possession by the Doors, Meryl collected the ball at the top of the 18 and rocketed a shot to the back post which was parried away by the St. Paul’s goalkeeper and Maggie Garbarino was ready and waiting to burry the rebound into the back of the net.
The second half remained scoreless. Every member of the Big Green team contributed to the result and helped the team earn its’ fifth shutout of the season.
Up next, the Big Green will travel north to kick-off against neighboring NMH on Wednesday, 10/9 at 4:30pm.
Many thanks to all the Big Green families for the wonderful snacks post-game!
Go Big Green!
