Deerfield’s boys varsity soccer team faced off against Wilbraham and Monson Academy’s squad at home on Wednesday October 30th. It was a great day out after a series of cold days in Deerfield. The sun was out and the stars of the Deerfield men’s soccer team were out as well. Within 3 minutes, the green were on the board with a goal from Teddy Cyr ‘27 assisted by Alex Salvo ‘26. A minute later, the Big Green scored again with Captain Jonny Scagel ‘25 scoring a goal assisted by Owen Tymchuk ‘26 and in the next minute Scagel scored again this time assisted by postgraduate Jack Dvorin ‘25. The Green developed a massive lead in the first five minutes and then struck again in the 28th minute of the game after four year senior Blake Donnellan ‘25 got the fans and Deerfield bench on their feet by scoring the first goal of his Deerfield career assisted by Scagel. Seven minutes later, Yesung Lam ‘25 scored another goal assisted by Scagel. The Green were up 5 going into the half having the best half of a game they have had all season despite having many players injured including typical starters Remi Zeitlin ‘26, Jadin Smith ‘26, and Stefan Flaska ‘28. The second half was a bit slower for the Green scoring in the 73rd minute again after Owen Tymchuk ‘26 hit an incredible outside of the box shot perfectly placed into the top right corner of the net assisted by Teddy Cyr ‘27. Wilbraham scored their first goal in the 84th minute and the game finished 6-1. Captain Jonny Scagel put up a masterful performance contributing to the 4 out of the 6 goals that the Green scored.
