We played Westy to a 1-1 tie after taking a 1-0 lead to halftime. The game started at 5:10pm due to an odd Wednesday schedule, so we played 35 minute halves on a huge turf field. We also had to supply our own goalie today, so Tai Feng played the first half and made two outstanding saves to keep things level. Finn Knight played the second half and was roving sweeper keeper who got our blood pressure up a few times, but played very well overall. We started off, as we usually do, possessing the ball well and trying to work our way into space. With such a big, fast surface, we had a hard time keeping the ball contained in our feet, but we had some decent chances. Blaze Etienne-Cummings, for his first career DA goal, poked in a loose ball in the box after a good advancement into their end. In the second half, Westy had a little more swagger and as the players tired, they took advantage of open space in the middle of the field, but our midfielders worked hard to dispossess and our back line was again very tough to penetrate. We conceded on a corner kick that was sent back into the box after an initial clear, then shot off Finn Knight’s foot, and then Westy put the rebound in. The remaining third of the game was back and forth. We worked hard to preserve the draw and created a few good chances. The boys played well enough to win today and yet remained positive despite the draw. After four days off, to play on a new surface on the road in the near dark was a daunting task. They rose to the challenge well!
