We beat Loomis Chafee today 1-0 on a late goal by sophomore Isaac Shobola. With about 10 minutes to go and the teams locked in a defensive 0-0 tie, Deerfield had some momentum. We were bringing persistent pressure to the backline from our forward group. This crew of Tai Feng, Blaze Etienne-Cummings, Cai Harrison, Isaac Shobola, Brian Gianvecchio, and James Kurto had been working to manufacture a goal by chasing the ball around the back, getting a turnover, and get the ball into the box. They earned several corners in a row and finally, on a potent service from Justin Scalzo, Isaac made a timely run and an strong aerial lunge to punch his laces through the ball as it zipped through the six yard box. The boys went berserk, as Isaac hasn’t been playing much and this was his first goal of the season. We locked Loomis down in the midfield and Joe Berman, back for a JV swan song, kept his sheet clean. Another 1-0 win has brought us some good confidence and a sense that we can beat good teams, as Loomis always is.
