On a rare Friday match, we beat Hotchkiss 1-0. The match was very even with both teams playing similar styles. Both teams sought control of the midfield and frustrated each other with assertive dispossession and quick passing. Both teams had strong and quick defenses and goal keepers. Both teams had only a couple of good chances in the first half yet nobody scored. The second half way was much the same, though Deerfield exerted more sustained pressure. With about 15 minutes remaining, senior co-captain Andrew Lewis made a smart run on a throw in behind the Hotchkiss defense, remembering you can’t be offside on a throw in. He settled the ball well and sent a perfect cross to the goal mouth but out of the keeper’s reach. Tai Feng had a great position, read the cross well, and hit a full volley which bounded into the far panel. With disciplined defense, our boys finished the game by continuing the clog play in the middle. Hotchkiss did muster one good chance, but keeper Gianluca Simonelli made a nimble save to preserve his clean sheet. We beat a good, physical team today with a team effort and have high hopes for more big wins against more rivals!
