Soccer (Boys): Junior B vs. Eaglebrook School (10/19/24 2:30 PM)

Event Details

The boys junior B footballers traveled up the hill on Saturday, October 19th for a return date against local rival Eaglebrook School. It was family weekend at EBS and a particularly warm, sunny afternoon and, after a slow start, Deerfield warmed up and eventually won the game 6-0. Playing without keeper Magnus Selvig ’26, replacement Coleman Keller ’28 anchored a tough defense and led the team to their 7th clean sheet in 8 games. With the win, Quad Squad ran their record to 8-0 on the season.

The early play was fairly even and EBS were able to generate some chances nearly right off the bat. In the 4th minute, a backpedaling Keller just barely managed to catch a chip attempt that had goal written all over it. He ended up making several more saves in a back-and-forth first 10 minutes. In the 10th minute, EBS had some bad luck, when a back pass intended for the keeper found the back of the net instead for a 1-0 Deerfield lead. After a slow start offensively, co-captains Cole Higgins ’26 and Jack Keller ’26 both found the net in the 12th minute and halfway through the 1st half, Deerfield had a 3-0 lead. Higgins scored again just before half-time to increase the lead to 4-0.

In the 2nd half, Higgins struck again in the 36th minute for his 3rd hat trick of the season to make the score 5-0. Shortly after defender Spencer Trees ’27 hit the crossbar on a long-range effort, Harry Mitchell ’27 slammed home a corner kick from the back post for the final margin. With the win, Deerfield swept the season series against Eaglebrook.

Next up for the team is a return game against Suffield Academy on October 23rd. Game time is 3 pm in Suffield, CT.
