Led by 4 goals from co-captain Cole Higgins ’26, the boys junior B footballers overwhelmed the Eagle Hill School 11-1 on October 2nd on a beautiful fall afternoon in Hardwick, Mass. Playing on artificial turf for the first time this season didn’t bother the team at all, as they scored early and often and mostly prevented the home team from possessing the ball. After their first-ever win against the Pioneers, Quad Squad stands at 5-0 on the season.
Co-captain Jack Keller ’26 got the visitors off on the right foot, finding the back of the net in the 1st minute of the game. After a home team own goal in the 3rd minute made the score 2-0, the outcome did not seem to be in doubt. The visitors scored four more goals in the 1st half, including the first goal of the season from Harry Mitchell ’27 in the 13th minute, Higgins 12th and 13th goals of the season, and the 6th goal of the season from Marty Rodriquez Pastor ’28. Magnus Selvig ’26 maintained yet another clean sheet for the half to lead Deerfield to a 6-0 lead at the break.
In the 47th minute, the Pioneers caught keeper Coleman Keller ’28 off of his line to score their first goal of the season to cut the lead to 6-1. Deerfield responded with five more goals of their own, however, including the first career goals for Marco Feng ’26 and Kevin Lu ’28. The defense continued to play well, limiting offensive opportunities for the home team, with the final score ending up 11-1. Quad Squad will be back in action on Family Weekend – Saturday, October 5th with a 3 pm rematch against the Westminster School on the lower fields.
