Soccer (Boys): Junior B vs. Andover (10/26/24 2:45 PM)

Event Details

The boys junior B footballers faced one of their tougher challenges of the season – a long road trip to perennial nemesis Phillips Academy Andover on October 26th. Missing two key starters, the team managed to pull out a gritty come-from-behind 2-2 draw in front of a large family weekend crowd. With the result, the team’s record now stands at 9-0-1 this season with two games remaining.

Quad Squad found themselves in an unfamiliar position nearly right off the bat, as Andover found the back of the net on a scramble in the box after a corner kick in the 7th minute. This marks the first time that the team trailed in a game all season. To their credit, they rallied quickly and were able to tie the score at 1 with a Kevin Lu ’28 strike in the 13th minute. Andover were able to take the lead back in the 28th minute, however, after a free kick inadvertently went off a Deerfield player into the back of the net. The team found themselves back in unfamiliar territory, down 2-1 at the half.

Andover’s lead didn’t last long into the 2nd half, after a Cole Higgins ’26 goal in the 38th minute tied the game. Deerfield had the better of play in the last 30 minutes of the game, but neither team was able to break the deadlock and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. The defense, led by Ryan Stenzler ’27, Coleman Keller ’28, and Spencer Trees ’27, played particularly well and limited Andover’s chances in the run of play.

Quad Squad will play their last home game on October 30th, with a return date against the Bement School, looking to sweep the season series against in-town rivals. Game time is 3 pm.
