Soccer (Boys): Junior A vs. Williston (10/23/24 3:00 PM)

Event Details

Deerfield fell to the Williston-Northampton School’s JV2 team on a hot and windy afternoon at home. An own-goal and two defensive breakdowns left us down 0-3 at the half, when the team rallied in the huddle with some good ideas of how to shore up its weaknesses and come out stronger in the second half. That’s just what they did, with right winger Henry Markcrow putting DA on the board at 49’ with a powerful shot to the upper-left corner from just outside the 18. When a hand ball in the box from Williston’s last man gave Markcrow a PK chance, he didn’t miss and this team with a track record of come-from-behind victories looked headed toward another. But then we gave Williston their own PK, which keeper Jerry Du ’27 stopped brilliantly. But asking him to do it twice was too much, which is what our defense did, and we went down 4-2. Deerfield kept pressing but couldn’t force another goal across. Owen Fleck ’26, Rich Zhou ’26, Rowan Dias ’27, and PJ Pirsch ’28 played the full 80 minutes for our team with its perennially short bench. Howard Jin ’27 hustled especially hard in his first game playing exclusively in the midfield, and Teddy Gonzalez ‘26 was our defensive standout. We look forward to joining our Varsity, JV, and Junior B teams in heading to Andover this weekend.
