It was a cool crisp day at Westminster School, as JV field hockey took the field. We knew that the two teams would be well matched, and we were ready to give our all. While Westminster scored in the first half, Deerfield controlled the play, especially in the midfield, led by Charlotte Steffensen and Taylor Wilburn. Rose Manning and Edie Huffard, along with our other defensive players kept the ball mostly out of our end of the field, constantly thwarting Westminster’s offensive efforts. Even though we played a great first half, the girls came out of the gate in the second half with even more energy and determination. The Deerfield team worked together, making precise passes and moving the ball toward our goal. In the final minutes of the game, we kept up the pressure, drawing multiple corners back-to-back. It was not our day to score, but we gave everything we had until the very end. We left the field with smiles on our faces, knowing we played hard. The final score was 0-2. We’re looking forward to Saturday’s game, 10/19, at Taft.
