It was a beautiful Fall Family Weekend at Deerfield Academy. Our JV Field Hockey team played against St. Paul’s School. We came in knowing that this would be an evenly matched game, and it was. Our girls played well, but St. Paul’s was able to break away three times during the first quarter and made good use of their short time near our goal. We were down 3 – 0 at the half, but the team did not let a rough start get them down. They thought through what was going well and what needed to change. They listened to their coaches at the half and applied everything suggested. The second half was a very different game. Our defense was very strong, with Esther Lee providing clear communication. Rose Manning moved to defense which helped to strengthen our back while running up as needed and helping transition us to an offensive position. The entire defense played well, supporting each other and moving quickly to the ball. Our offense had the ball in their territory for most of the second half, dominating that part of the game, but unfortunately was not able to get the ball in the cage today. Charlotte Steffensen was a rock for our team, embodying the perseverance and grit that defined our team today. We may have lost the game, but our girls showed that they are a formidable team who never gives up. Great job, Deerfield JV Field Hockey!
