The Deerfield Girls’ cross-country team traveled to Wallingford, Connecticut on Friday afternoon for a tri-race against Choate Rosemary Hall and The Loomis Chaffee School. The girls were thrilled to line up against two very strong teams and gave a great effort on the course, a winding, wooded 5K with two major ascents and a downhill finish. Skye Georgiadis finished first place for Deerfield and fifth overall––she was proud of her performance and eager for the next opportunity to race and try to beat her PR. Elizabeth Kelly and Ginger Bernstein were the next green jerseys across the line, battling it out through the final straightaway and finishing within seconds of each other. It was a speedy scene at the finish line as runners found momentum on the descent. To round out the top seven finishers for Deerfield, Olivia Port, Claire Xia, Gage Calhoun, and Heidi Liang crossed the line in a fairly wide spread. Ultimately, Deerfield lost to Choate and Loomis, with Loomis taking the overall victory. The team was grateful for the opportunity to run on a course away from home, and looking ahead to traveling to Andover in two weeks!
