Deerfield JV Swim had an exciting first meet against Suffield in our home pool this past Saturday. While Suffield ultimately came out on top, Deerfield swimmers triumphed in their own right, racking up an astonishing seventeen personal best times across the meet! A few swimmers of note include Miu Yatsuka ‘24, who came in first in the 100 yard IM and second in the 50 yard butterfly; Julie Yan ‘26, who had a dramatic second-place photo-finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, just outswimming a competitive third-place finisher from Suffield; and Melody Zhao ‘26, who managed to swim competitive times in the 500 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, and 400 yard freestyle relay, despite the events falling nearly back-to-back in the second half of the meet! Divers Kayleen Tang ‘25 and Alex Chutkow ‘26 also had an excellent day, coming in first and second place respectively. The JV squad may not be celebrating a win, but we are celebrating four swimmers for whom Saturday’s meet was their first (ever!) and the entirety of the team for their outpouring of spirit and support throughout the day. We’re excited to swim again, at home, on Wednesday 1/17 against Eaglebrook and NMH.
