Deerfield Girls Varsity hockey headed to Pomfret on Wednesday afternoon to play for the Hastings Cup, which honors Brad Hastings, longtime DA faculty member and former Head of School at Pomfret. Deerfield dominated this game from start to finish, applying pressure all over the ice and working together well to generate lots of offensive chances.
First period goals were scored by Taylor Wilburn ’27 on rebound in front (assists to Kate Doucette ’27 and Allie Corrieri ’25), Julia Tamul ’25 on another play in front (assists to Doucette and Bailey Miller ’24) and Peyton Wierl ’26 on the power play deflecting a Sophie Frost ’26 shot (second assist to Amelia Healey ’27).
In the second, Annie Dinges ’24 took a beautiful feed from Olivia Austen ’27, collected her own rebound and then went top corner to extend the lead to four. Then, Frost tipped home a great Corrieri shot (second assist to Dinges), and Brady Wierl ’26 showed great poise in taking space and picking her spot (assist to Miller). Tamul then got her second of the game (assists to Doucette and Wilburn), before B. Wierl found the back of the net again off an assist from Frost.
In the third, Dinges won the face off up to Frost, who snapped a quick shot top corner. Then, P. Wierl scored off of a nice backhand shot after taking a nice feed from Keira Austen ’26, before then setting up Gia Thompson ’26 in the slot for another goal. Charlotte McFadzean ’26 rounded out the scoring with a shot from the point that went in off of a Pomfret player, with Healey and Mia Goetzke ’24 picking up assists.
Wilburn earned the hard hat for her team first attitude and hard work today, Campbell Krotee ’24 got another shut out, and we are again grateful to the parents (the Dinges family this time!) for feeding us so well after the game. We’ll have a tough test against Andover on Saturday on the road.
