On Saturday the boys JV hockey squad hosted the Knights from Salisbury to start off the 2024 campaign. The Salisbury team is always strong, fast and competitive and this year would be no exception.
They came prepared to play. In the first period both teams had several good chances. Connor Hevesy was doing his part helping the team stay even early on. The difference in period 1 came from two Salisbury power-play goals. On their heels, Deerfield began to dig in at the start of the second period, but penalties and sloppy neutral zone play led to two more Salisbury goals.
Finally, in the third period with the score at 5-0 Alex Sotirhos found the back of the net to score the lone Deerfield goal on the afternoon.
With their record now at 2-2-1 the team will regroup and begin getting ready for games this week against NMH and Phillips Andover. With plenty of good energy and a determined outlook, this team hopes to improve on their consistent output as a team and as individuals. Hats off given to Jarron Crosbie who has returned to the lineup from the break in a new role as goaltending. He will get some playing time this weekend!
