On Wednesday the boys J.V. hockey team hosted a talented and deep Cushing Varsity “B” team at the Class of ’93 rink.
The start of the game saw Deerfield take 4 penalties all within the first 9 minutes of the game. Despite the undisciplined and chaotic start the man-down units were ready to go and their efforts, combined with goalie Jarron Crosbie’s stellar play, kept the game even through one period at 0-0.
The second period started even with both teams continuing to press on the opposition offensive ends. Deerfield would go on to take 4 additional penalties in the period to Cushing’s staying out of the penalty box. The result was a 3-0 lead for the visitors after two periods.
The Cushing goalie had a solid game and would keep us off the scoreboard on the afternoon. Cushing scored their fourth goal in the thirds period to cap the scoring at 4-0. A disappointing day for sure for the home team. The game could have been closer but our undisciplined play kept undermining the good effort coming from so many of the players. Between now and Saturday’s matchup with Hotchkiss this team needs to come together and re-evaluate their definition of being competitive. The coaches are confident of some forward progress here!
